The Urban Barn at James J. Sexton Park

Located off 91st and Rockwell at James J. Sexton Park, the Evergreen Park Urban Barn houseshorse horses, goats, cats, and chickens, and a beautiful barn for residents of all ages to enjoy.

The Urban Barn gives visitors exposure to farm animals, gardening, beekeeping, urban wildlife, bird watching, as well as practices that reduce our environmental impact and promote a more sustainable and earth-friendly community. Visit during the open hours to meet the animals and helpful staff, or consider becoming a volunteer!

Hours

Monday: 7:00AM-10:00AM and 3:00PM-5:00PM
Tuesday through Friday: 7:00AM-5:00PM
Saturday & Sunday: 7:00AM-5:00PM
The barn closes for one hour every day during the hours of 12:00PM-2:00PM for staff lunch purposes and/or needs outside of the barn.

During the months of January, February, and March hours may be shortened to 2:00PM-4:00PM due to weather conditions.

Volunteering

The Urban Barn at James J. Sexton Park is looking for folks interested in volunteering their efforts in the daily administration of the facility!

If you find yourself interested in a very hands-on activity, please stop by the barn during operating hours and let us know all about you. Please note that volunteers must be at least 16 years old and able to lift and move up to fifty pounds.

Partnerships and Groups

The Urban Barn partners with local schools, like Evergreen Park Community High School, Evergreen Park Elementary Schools, and AERO Special Education Cooperative to engage students in building hands-on connections with the animals and the Earth.
