Recycling - Blue Bag Guide

Recycling:     Home     Blue Bag Guide    Recycling Education Program    Recycling Guide

Lake and Lakes Disposal Services uses a state-of-the-art truck to collect the Village’s recyclables.  It is a two-compartment truck that keeps paper/fiber and blue bags separated. This is essential for proper recycling drop off.  Please carefully follow the two easy steps outlined below to reduce your waste and increase your recycling.

Blue Bag Recycling Instructions:

Please have all bundled papers and blue bags ready for pick up by 6:00 a.m.

Step #1 -  Paper, newspaper and cardboard

Newspapers and their inserts should be bundled, tied or placed in plastic or paper grocery bags next to your blue bag at the curbside.

Please remove the plastic sleeves from the newspapers.  Sleeve should be disposed of in regular garbage collection.

All corrugated cardboard must be flattened and bundled (2ft x 3ft allowance) or placed in paper grocery bags.

Cereal boxes, pasta boxes, cardboard egg cartons must be bundled or placed in a paper grocery bag or plastic bag.

Junk mail, catalogs, magazines, telephone books, paper grocery bags, and old school papers/notebook paper must be bundled or placed in a paper grocery bag or plastic bag.

Step #2:  Blue Bags

Glass:  Clear, brown, green bottles, and jars.  Please rinse and throw away lids in regular garbage collection.  (No Pyrex or window glass).

Plastics:  Plastic milk, water jugs and pop bottles.  Rinse and crush all plastic containers to conserve space in the bag.  Throw away the caps in regular garbage disposal.  Plastic 6 & 12 pack rings are acceptable.

Aluminum/Steel:  Aluminum, tin or steel cans should be rinsed out with labels removed.  Clean aluminum foil, pie pans, etc.

It is important to remember what goes into your blue bag.  By contaminating it with nonrecyclable waste, it not only negates the effectiveness of the recycling program but creates problems for those people who collect the contents.

Notes

  • No paper/fiber disposal in blue bags.

  • Styrofoam is no longer a recyclable item do not put anything made out of Styrofoam in the bag.

  • Shredded paper is not recyclable.

  • Please note that an orange sticker is provided in every roll of blue bags.  To receive a replacement roll, simply affix the orange sticker to the last bag.  Bags may also be picked up at the Village Hall.

The Village has a Recycling Guide which features locations on where to take items such as car batteries, fire extinguishers, computers, cell phones and more.  Stop in at the Village Hall and pick one up.
