Evergreen Park. . .A Business Community Growing With The Times
The Village of Evergreen Park has a strong commitment to the businesses in the community. “Keep The Green In Evergreen” is an ongoing campaign that asks the residents of our community to support local merchants first, not only to maintain a thriving business economy, but as a way to generate local tax dollars.
And the residents have responded, which is why Evergreen Park’s business community boasts a strong and vital retail economy that looks to grow even stronger into the future.
~ The Heart Of The Village ~
is, of course, 95th and Kedzie Avenue. Over a century ago, the village planners intended for Klein Park (97th and Homan) to be the center of the Village. With businesses thriving at 95th and Kedzie, it did not take long for this intersection to become the “heart” of the Village. It has continued to be so for a century, and is now stronger than ever with a mixture of major franchises (Oberweis, Jimmy Johns, CVS) and local business successes (Chi Tung, Cavatappi, GEM Electric, Zaca Tacos, and of course, Wolfs Bakery). ~ The Eastern Corridor ~
sees continued expansion. Standard Bank has just completed a beautiful state-of-the-art banking facility that greets visitors coming in from Beverly. The historic Evergreen Plaza will soon see a major redevelopment that will bring it back to pre-eminence in Evergreen Park. The WalMart continues to thrive. North of that, the former Evergreen Country Club is being transformed into, 1) a major retail area, and, 2) a 50-Acre Community Park. ~ West on 95th ~
Pete’s Fresh Market opened in 2010 and has quickly become an anchor on this main artery, sharing success with locally-owned businesses such as Evergreen Door and Window, Barracos, Martinelli’s Childrens Wear, Naples Bakery, Exclamations, Calabria Imports, ArtLynn Photography, Red Wing Shoes, Southtown Paint and Wallpaper, Golden Griddle. The owner of Pappys is re-investing in Evergreen Park again, opening a second restaurant, Tavern On the Green, in the old Karsons Restaurant property. Other franchises, such as Famous Dave’s and Culvers are coming soon. Redevelopment at the western edge of the Village is on the way. Little Company of Mary Hospital is the single largest single employer in the Village, and is undergoing renovation of its north and south pavilions, along with a brand new main building.
~ Moving Ahead ~
Development continues in other parts of the Village, north on Kedzie to 87th Street, and on 87th east to Rockwell. The former Emerald Park property at 91st and Pulaski Road is now home to a beautiful facility owned by Southwest Nephrology. The Village will maintain its commitment to expand existing businesses and attract new business to the area, thus providing additional sales tax revenue and contributions to make municipal services among the very best in the state for a community its size. Therefore, we welcome you as a prospective entrepreneur to share in the success of the Village of Evergreen Park.
